This week I stopped by one of my local go-tos for a drink and a bite to eat and noticed everyone staring blankly upwards at the TV screens. They weren’t watching a big game or the latest news—everyone was fixated on Bob Ross’s “The Joy of Painting”. I later learned the iconic show was recently released on Netflix for audiences to paint along with. While our jobs may be challenging and stressful at times, they come along with a sense of accomplishment and community. Like a digital, 21st century Bob Ross, ASUG hopes to help you create a picture of success and make the process as enjoyable as possible through our booming HR Community.

Calling All Customers: What's Your Beef? – Of the many Bob Ross quotes I will spew throughout this blog, one of my favorites is, “We don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents”. While they may not feel so “happy” at the time, your challenges and mistakes matter to us and will help us and SAP grow to support you. Join this discussion to learn from other HR professionals and our in-house experts.

Get to Know More about SAP® SuccessFactors® Presentations Solution – “Water’s like me. It’s lazy. Boy, it always looks for the easiest way to do things,” says Mr. Ross as a small brook materializes on his canvas. While we don’t encourage laziness, looking for the easiest way to do things can save us all time and money. SAP SuccessFactors has a feature that blends PowerPoint with live data, so channel the water and create talent review presentations that just flow. Join this presentation to see how it works and what it can do.

Improve Payroll Validation Through SAP Payroll Control Center – While free spirits like Bob Ross grace our television screens, there is always a structure or system behind them. Ross often joked about the producers and politics of being on a 30-minute television program. Even your most creative employees need to get paid, and luckily there is a happy little solution called the SAP Payroll Control Center. Learn more by attending this webcast or catching the “rerun” later on.

HR Compensation Special Interest Group Town Hall (July) – We are an HR community: We collaborate and help each other in order to do our jobs better, faster, and more accurately. This spirit of collaboration is what makes our Town Halls so special. Dial in on July 28 to hear all about Executive Review and speak your mind. In the words of Ross, “You can have anything you want in the world—once you help everyone around you get what they want”. While the word “anything” may be a stretch, we can sure accomplish common goals through forums like this.

HR Face-to-Face at a City Near You – Discounted and Complimentary Events – If we can take anything from “The Joy of Painting”, it’s the fact that you can learn incredible things from someone even if you can’t meet them face-to-face. I’m sure you have all seen this in the HR community, where knowledge is shared via blogs, discussions, and webcasts. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take the time to engage with us in-person at one of our many events. Check out this list of upcoming events, get a great deal, and meet us in person!

I hope you were as happy reading this as I was writing this. ASUG’s HR community can be a happy little place where magical things can happen (trying to channel Bob Ross there). I’ll leave you with this nugget of Bob Ross wisdom: “You can do anything you want to do. This is your world”. Have a great, relaxed weekend, and be on the lookout for next week’s recap.

As I’m sure you have seen, read, or experienced, the Pokémon craze is back with a vengeance in the form of Pokémon Go. Although the series has annual releases, Nintendo and the Pokémon Company haven’t been able to capture the mania that swept the nation almost 20 years ago – until now. The augmented reality app merges geolocation with the Internet of Things to hide these virtual monsters in the real world. Like HR, technology alone isn’t enough: it’s how it interacts with the real world and the people around us that determines success. So, whether you want to become the next Pokémon Master or can’t tell the difference between a Charmander and a Pikachu, ASUG’s HR Community has you covered.

Answered! Compliance Reporting in Employee Central – The Pokémon Go app starts with a message: “Remember to be alert at all times. Stay aware of your surroundings.” Compliance is critical, as people have fallen off of cliffs, found dead bodies, and found themselves locked in cemeteries. In our HR community, a compliance discussion that has been awaiting response has finally been answered! Beware of cliffs as you head over to read the response.

Answered! Document Management with SAP® SuccessFactors SuiteLuke Marson comes to the rescue in this document management discussion. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a world where tiny computers can log our every encounter like a Pokédex (or did I just describe a smart phone?), so the HR community delivers on coming up with strategies for your HR activities.

HR Compensation Special Interest Group Town Hall – Pokémon Go, despite being popular, didn’t have the smoothest launch. Server issues and freezing plagued some players’ experiences; so as a community, feedback was given to the developers and workarounds were discussed amongst avid Pokémon trainers. We know that HR solutions are also never perfect, so we invite you to come together and discuss SAP SuccessFactors compensation in this Executive Review and Town Hall.

SuccessConnect 2016 – “Pokéstops” and “Pokémon Gyms” tied to real-world landmarks are bringing hordes of people together to meet and play, joined by a common interest. This August, come find some Pokéstops in Las Vegas at the SuccessConnect 2016 conference. Not only is there a ton of content from SAP and partners, rumor has it that some exciting stuff from ASUG will be there. Hurry, though: registration will close sooner than you can say “Pikachu.”

Thank you for entertaining my obsession with virtual creatures hidden in geographical space, and I hope you check out the HR community for the content above and more! Now, I need to go hunt down a Jigglypuff.

Whether you are installing a new shelf or fixing a leaky pipe, it’s important to have the tools you need to get the job done. While hammers, wrenches, and pliers are all obvious choices when filling up your household toolbox, it can be a little bit harder to determine what professional tools you need to do your job. Whether you are installing a new product or procedure or giving your HRM solution a tune-up, ASUG’s HR Community is the Home Depot of human resources. Here are some highlights to help you get started on your next project.

Compliance Reporting in Employee Central – Safety first! Before you start any project or implementation, it’s important to know exactly what the risks and requirements are. Check out this discussion for some HR best practices that will keep your business running smoothly and out of the compliance ER.

Handling Document Management with SAP® SuccessFactors Suite® – Some neighborly advice can go a long way, so let’s help out our HR “neighbors” by sharing the different ways documents can be managed with SAP SuccessFactors. While I may use a hammer and nail, you might use a drill and screw, and together we can see what works and what doesn’t―just with HCM solutions, rather than replacing a coat hook.

Upcoming HR Meetings, Webcasts, and Events – Gone are the days of simply “reading the manual” to finish a project. We can now scour the web for easier, better, and safer ways to do things. From how-tos on checking the oil in your car to makeup tutorials on YouTube, the web is filled with different forms of education on countless topics. Take a look at this list of upcoming webcasts and events for HR professionals somewhere in between your next WebMD diagnosis and cute cat video.

Affordable Health Care Act: Review of SAP's Solution for Information Reporting for Employer-Sponsored Coverage and Minimum Essential Coverage – Have you ever tried to put together ready-made furniture, perhaps of the Swedish variety? The pictures seem pretty black-and-white―literally―but when screws go missing and pieces get put on backwards the process can be really frustrating. Luckily for you, you aren’t left with just a manual when putting together a way to handle information reporting on health care coverage. The HR Community (and this webcast) are here to guide you through the process.

There you have it for this week’s recap! Have a great weekend, explore some HR content, and while you’re at it, fix that leaky faucet or loose cabinet door … if you have the right tools.

Happy Independence day! Whether the 4th or July is your thing or you are more of a Canada Day celebrator, ASUG has plenty of reasons to rejoice. It’s time to celebrate independence, connect with our heritage, and have some fun with family. I encourage everyone to take a break from HR talk to get some surf and sun; but only after you take a look at ASUG’s HR Community. While you fire up the grill and ready your sparklers, I’m here to give you the low-down on this sizzling week of HR content.

HR Feedback Survey – Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address that America was a country “of the people, by the people, for the people.” The HR Community isn’t very different―and in the spirit of “people”, we want you to give us your feedback. You have until July 7 to complete this survey and have your voice be heard.

Compliance Reporting in Employee Central – Our great nation wouldn’t be what it is without some rules and regulations protecting its citizens. It is our job as HR professionals to ensure that we are meeting requirements, making sure our business and people are in the clear. Some good conversation is happening in this discussion, so come and share your experiences with the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, ADA, and more.

SAP® SuccessFactors® User Group: Workforce Analytics Potluck – What are you bringing to your Fourth of July party? Fruit? Some hamburgers and hot dogs? Beer? Fireworks? (Please don’t mix those last two.) Regardless of what you contribute to your July Fourth celebration, you should attend the SAP SuccessFactors workforce analytics potluck and come prepared with your questions around networking, influence, and knowledge-sharing.

HR Magazine’s 30 Under 30 – Know any true young sparklers in the HR Community? While fireworks are certainly celebratory, they come and go in the blink of an eye. Show appreciation for your upcoming talent in a more lasting way by nominating them for the HR Magazine‘s 30 Under 30 in HR.

2016 ASUG HR & Payroll Canada Summit – No, we haven’t forgotten our members in the north. Although we are a few months away, mark your calendars for this HR conference in Calgary. We have a Recharge HR track and a complimentary Pre-Conference Seminar to enrich your skillset and bring you into the digitally transformed world of HR.

Be safe, have fun, and enjoy the fireworks this weekend. And as exciting as we all find HR, relax and take advantage of the long weekend. I’ll be sure to catch everyone up in next week’s HR recap!
